BENNING, Richard Neal

Age 85, of Dayton, passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Carriage Inn of Dayton following a lengthy and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Richard was born on January 26, 1932 in Dayton, OH, son of the late Harry E. & Grace (Richards) Benning, Sr. He was preceded in death also by his former wife, Doris E. Benning and brother, Harry E. Benning, Jr. Richard was retired from Dayton Power & Light as an electrical engineer for 40 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. His greatest enjoyment in life was flying small-engine aircraft. He earned certifications in instrument rating, multi-engine, commercial, jet engine, as well as CFI (certified flight instructor). His second passion was boating & water skiing and living on the Emerald Coast. Richard is survived by his loving & devoted daughter, Debbie (Mike) Allen of Brookville; two grandsons, Chris (Ann-Lisa) Allen of Miamisburg and Nick Allen of West Carrollton; three sisters, Dolores (Elmer) Longenecker of Piqua, Carole (Robert) Shoemaker of Beavercreek & Joan Elaine Benning of Sanibel Island, FL; five great-grandchildren, Kyle, Cody, Zachary, Caleb and Isabella; special great-grandson, Cole Michael Allen & a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am – 11:00 am Monday, November 20 at the GILBERT-FELLERS FUNERAL HOME, 950 ALBERT RD., BROOKVILLE. Funeral service, officiated by Bobbie Predmore, will be at 11:00 am Monday at the funeral home with interment to follow at Royal Oak Memorial Gardens.
