KIMMEL, Ethel L.
Age 89, formerly of Brookville, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 15, 2010 in Tyler, Texas, where she had made her home for the last 34 years. She was born July 19, 1920, to Isadore and Grace Beisser of Detroit. In addition to her parents, Ethel was predeceased by her husband, Byron Dale Kimmel, son Byron Dale Kimmel Jr., brothers Bill and Roy Jones and sisters Alberta Armstrong & Lori Foutz. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Ethel was a member of the Brookville Church of the Brethren and served as a nurse for Vinton C. Young, M.D., and Marion H. Nelson, M.D. She also was employed by Westbrook Elementary School and the Beverly Shoppe Women’s Apparel. In 1976 she moved to Tyler and became a member of Woods Baptist Church. She continued her lifelong love of fashion, selling apparel at various boutiques. She also enjoyed volunteering at Tyler hospitals, spending time with her family and ballroom dancing. She is survived by her husband Vernon Shelton, son Gary and daughter-in-law Phyllis of Tyler, daughter Sherri Kimmel and son-in-law David Liu of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and daughter-in-law Ruth Kimmel Cantrell of Brookville. Seven grandchildren, Lori Peake, Lissa Greenlee, Greg Kimmel, Byron Kimmel, Courtney Spangler, Alison Diegel and Alexander Diegel; 10 great-grandchildren; brother John N. Jones and sister Marilyn Cunningham also survive her. Graveside services will be held in Arlington (Parish) Cemetery on Sat. July 24 at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Jim Chronister officiating. Friends and family are invited to gather at the Brookville Church of the Brethren, 220 Western Ave., after the service.
