MARSHALL, Betty
Age 86, formerly of Englewood, passed away at Founders Plaza Nursing & Rehabilitation in Wylie, Texas on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, after an extended illness.
She was born to George and Freda Pirlot, the youngest of three children. When Betty was four years old, her mother passed away. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Ida and Frank Strauss, on a farm in the upper peninsula of Michigan.
After high school, Betty moved to Indiana, then moved to Dayton, Ohio with her girlfriend and worked at McCall’s Printing. It was here where she met Howard Marshall, who recently returned to work from serving four years in the Air Force. After dating for six months, she married Howard in 1957. She continued working until her daughter was born, then became a stay at home Mom for the next 16 years.
Betty loved, lived and enjoyed life to the fullest, she lit up a room with her smile and laughter. With her generous heart, she had a unique gift to make family and friends feel loved and welcome. A remarkable cook, dishes Betty prepared were eagerly awaited at family or friend gatherings Making jewelry necklaces, brandy snifters and ceramics were among her early hobbies. She was a collector of spoons, thimbles, Precious Moments figurines and trinkets for her printer shadow boxes.
She was very active and loved being outdoors. Gardening, bowling, swimming, water skiing, boating, ice skating, were many of her pastimes. Up through her early 70’s she continued to participate in her favorite recreation playing golf, snow skiing and snowmobiling.
Her greatest achievement was being a loving wife, mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She devoted her life to her husband, daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren attending football, basketball, volleyball, soccer and school events they participated in.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Freda Pirlot, Frank and Ida Strauss, sister, Delores (PIrlot) HItterman; brothers, Walter Pirlot and Russell Pirlot. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Howard T. Marshall; daughter, Tracy and her husband, Doug Swafford; granddaughters, Danielle and her husband, Andrew Kudlacek; Jordan Swafford and great grandchildren, MacKinley and Mason, sister, Vickie (Pirlot) Stone; brothers, Allan Strauss and his wife, Sharon; Larry Strauss and his wife, Debbie; nieces, nephews, family and friends. Thanks to the staff and volunteers at Founders Plaza Nursing and Rehabilitation and Hospice PLUS, Dallas, for their help and support.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Saturday June 2 at the GILBERT-FELLERS FUNERAL HOME, 950 ALBERT RD., BROOKVILLE, with a memorial service at 1:00 PM. A private inurnment service will be held at the convenience of the family.
