WETZEL, Irene
Age 95, of Brookville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Hospice of Dayton, following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Wetzel, Jr. in 1989, by grandchildren, Michael Falknor, Timothy Woxman & Erica Wetzel. Irene was affectionately known as “Grandma Wetzel” to all of her family, friends, and members of the community. She was instrumental in initiating the National Council on Bible Curriculum in Public Schools and received an official acknowledgment for the time she commited to this project. She achieved a rank of 6A with a Japanese company by the name of Enagic, which means she has been an integral part of impacting the health and well-being of over 200 people, by offering them a medical grade water called Kangen. She was the matriarch of love and knew no strangers. She was an intercessory prayer warrior for the Brookville Community. Mayor Dave Seagraves had her pray at his annual Mayor's Prayer Breakfast on several occassions. She was an active member of Moms In Touch, a group that meets weekly to pray over the faculty and students of BHS. You could see her every year around the flagpole with the students during the National Day of Prayer. She hosted weekly bible studies out on the Farm for anyone who wanted to come and be blessed. She had a custom painting of Moses and the Ten Commandments on the side of her barn. Many strangers would stop just to meet the person responsible for that huge mural and become her friend for life. Her door was always open to minister, to inspire, and impact all of those who came into her presence. Irene was a legend whose prayers and ministry was felt by people all over the world, from Brookville, Ohio to such faraway places as Indonesia and Korea. Irene is survived by daughters, Cynthia (Tim) Woxman, Barbara (Lee) Falknor & Marilyn Wetzel Caporini; sons, Douglas (Julie) Wetzel & Daniel (Kathy) Wetzel; 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. A legacy of teachers, artists, nurses, builders, musicians, and entrepreneurs, all carrying on her spirit of gratitude and joy for this life and the next. Oh happy day! A funeral service will be held 7 PM Fri. Jan. 19 at the Dayton Living Word Church, 926 E. National Rd. Vandalia, OH 45377, with Pastor Pat Murray officiating. Visitation will be held at the church Friday from 4 PM until service time. Burial will be held in Mt. Zion Shoup Cemetery, Beavercreek at 10 AM on Sat. Jan. 20.
