Nellie Hartman

HARTMAN, Nellie M.,

Age 96, passed away March 24, 2018 at Brookdale Assisted Living, in Vacaville, CA from complications of Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) and cancer. She was born in Arcanum, Ohio.  Nellie was raised on various farms around Arcanum and Brookville, Ohio and went to school at Phillipsburg High School. In 1941 she married Russell Hartman of Phillipsburg, where they lived and had two children, Sandra and Terry.  Nellie was instrumental in starting the Phillipsburg Women’s Auxiliary, where her husband was the volunteer Fire Chief.  In 1960 the family moved to Springfield, MO, where Nellie worked for the City of Springfield for many years prior to retiring.  Nellie’s favorite pastimes were bowling, at which she was very good and played in many tournaments all over the US and watching/attending the St. Louis Cardinals baseball games.  Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Gertrude, and three brothers, Heber, Hubert, and Delmer.  Nellie is survived by her daughter Sandra and son Terry, as well as six grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren. The greatest joy in her life was to be with her grandchildren and to watch them grow and nourish their own families. In her later years her eyes would just light up at the sight of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She will be sorely missed but it is a blessing that she is no longer in any pain and is with her family in the presence of the Lord.  Graveside services will be held 9:30 AM Sat. July 7 at Arlington Cemetery, Brookville.
