SOWERS, Rev. Austin E.
Age 89, of Englewood, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 while at Cypress Pointe Health Campus, following an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer & Rev. Elizabeth Sowers, by his beloved wife of 50 years, Nancy; granddaughters, Sarah Sowers & Jessica Kelley; sisters, Edythe & Lillie; brothers, Glenn, Marlin & Vernon. Austin earned his Bachelor of Theology and Christian Education from Anderson College and Theological Seminary in 1952. He also earned his Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Kent State University in 1974. He was ordained into the ministry of the Church of God in 1953. Austin was a retired pastor, serving for 58 years in Pritchett, CO, Newton Falls, OH, Sydney, Australia and finally at Salem Church of God in Clayton, OH. Austin was a humble servant of God. In a ministry spanning more than half a century, he touched countless lives as he modeled the love of Christ. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Bonnie (Damewood) Sowers; son, Ronald (Susan) Sowers; daughter, Rev. Judy (Malcolm) Hughes; grandchildren, Joshua (Emily) Sowers, Elizabeth (Matthew) Blanchard, Amy (Jamie) Hoff & Michael (Mary) Hughes; great-grandchildren, Oliver Sowers, Rebecca Zornick, Grace Blanchard and Maya Katherine Hoff; sister, Jane (John) Guerriero; He is also survived by Bonnie’s children, Linda (Keith) Kelley & French J. (Sandra) Damewood; grandchildren, Kurt Kelley (Brooks) & Johnny Damewood; great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Gracelynn and Jackson Kelley, and numerous other relatives and many speical friends. A service to honor his life will be held 11:00 AM Wed. May 30 at Salem Church of God, 6500 Southway Rd., Clayton, OH 45315, with Rev. Bob Moss, Dr. Barry Callen & Rev. Jody McGuire officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery, Brookville. Visitation will be held 4-8 PM Tue. May 29 at the GILBERT-FELLERS FUNERAL HOME, 950 ALBERT RD., BROOKVILLE, and at the church Wednesday from 10 AM until service time.
