Betty Lou Crawford Obituary

CRAWFORD, Betty Lou

Age 93, of Brookville, OH passed away on February 2, 2024, at Brookhaven Nursing and Care Center. Betty was born on June 24, 1930, to the late Jesse & Maude Crawford. She was born in Johnsville, OH but her parents moved when she was very young to Brookville, OH. After graduating high school, Betty job searched in the Dayton area and landed a job with the Dayton Rubber Company. The job was not to her liking, so she applied and took a job with the National Cash Register. After working 20 plus years for the NCR and needing a change of pace, she decided to move to Houston, Texas along with her life-long companion Alta. While in Houston she worked for an electronic firm called Atech as a floor manager and then onto the oil drilling supply company Gyro Data until retirement. It was soon after retirement that Florida called her name so her and Alta again packed up their bags and moved first to Clearwater and later onto the Villages where she enjoyed the sunshine and the golfing community. At the age of 89 and suffering from health problems she decided to move back to the Brookville Area to be closer to her friends and family. Betty played almost every sport imaginable, with her favorites being fast pitch softball, golf, skiing, basketball, and bowling. She was good at anything she played but excelled in golf and fast pitch softball. She was elected to the Dayton City Softball Hall of Fame in the late 90’s. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Carolyn and Margaret Mendenhall, brothers Richard, Dale and Gale Crawford, and her life-long partner Alta Mae Michaelson. She is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, special friend Dolores Fahrney and many other longtime friends. The family would like to give a special thank you to her aid Vickie Smith and to the staff and nurses at Brookhaven retirement community of Brookville OH. Betty would like also for all her family and friends to not be sad and remember that they may inscribe “Miss on my tombstone but I didn’t Miss a thing”! On to my next chapter. There will be visitation on Friday, February 9, 2024, from 11-11:45 a.m. at GILBERT-FELLERS FUNERAL HOME, 950 ALBERT RD., BROOKVILLE, OH 45309 with a small service at the funeral home before we process to the Arlington Parrish Cemetery for the graveside service.
