Bonna Lee (Boomershine) Behnken, age 88, born December 26, 1931, from Brookville Ohio, finished her race, kept the faith, departed this life and embraced her beloved Lord and savior, Jesus Christ at 2:53pm on Thursday, April 2nd, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bob) E. Behnken, her parents, Cleon and Eva (Heffner) Boomershine, her sister, Ramona Evans and brother-in-law, Ralph Hofacker.
Bonna Lee grew up attending St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of New Lebanon where she and Bob were married on April 26, 1953, before transferring her membership to Providence Lutheran Church of Brookville where she served as a soloist (Favorite song: “In The Garden”), junior choir director, Sunday school teacher (Favorite scripture: Psalm 91 and Psalm 139), served on the Prayer Chain and in the Women’s Circle. A 1949 graduate of Dixie High School, Bonna Lee enjoyed attending Capital University in Columbus Ohio where she studied music. Her early Ohio forefathers and mothers were church planters and founding pioneer families of German Township, Jackson Township, Madison Township, Perry Township, Harrison Township, Neave Township, Germantown, Farmersville and Lewisburg Ohio.
Bonna Lee dearly loved her family and friends, loved to travel and enjoyed spending her summers at her Lakeside Ohio cottage on Lake Erie. She is survived by her four sons (and daughters-in-laws) Scott, Lee, Kent (Lisa) and Brent (Heidi) Behnken, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sister Volette Hofacker, brothers-and-sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. She is dearly loved by her family and friends and will be deeply missed.
Due to COVID-19 concerns, the services for Bonna Lee will be privately held at the convenience of her family: A public “Celebration of Life” to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in her name to the Brookville area HandiVan Ministry.
