Darlene Jane (White) Carney Obituary

Darlene Jane (White) Carney of Brookville, Ohio, went home to be with her Lord on February
22, 2026 after an extended battle with cancer.
She was born on December 29, 1952 to Delores (Johnson) and Kenneth White in Amsterdam,
Ohio. She grew up on a farm on Simmons Ridge where she loved her dogs and farm animals.
She was raised as an active member of the Amsterdam Community Church of God. She was a
1971 graduate of Carrollton High School and a 1976 graduate of the Ohio Valley School of
Nursing.
Darlene married Stephen Carney at the Simmons Ridge church on June 9, 1977. Together they
had two daughters, Jennifer and Amanda.
Family was always Darlene’s priority. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and aunt.
Caring for her family, even opening her home multiple times to give family members a place to
stay for unlimited amounts of time, brought her great happiness. She valued the family holidays
and travel experiences that gathered all of her favorite people together.
Outside of her family, Darlene served in many roles throughout her life.
While moving throughout Ohio and Kentucky, Darlene was able to serve as a Registered Nurse
in hospitals, doctors offices, elementary schools, and in public health. She took great care with
her patients to provide a good bedside experience and excellent care. It was a joy to her, in her
later nursing years, to be able to provide nursing care that helped seniors stay in their own
homes for as long as possible.
Darlene’s faith was incredibly important to her. She served churches as a pastor’s wife, choir
member, choir director, Women of the Church of God (WCG) president, sang in ensembles, and
served in missions and outreach ministries.
Darlene loved to travel. She often expressed gratitude for the opportunities she had to visit so
many places in Europe, South America, and the US both as a tourist and to serve others on
missions trips. She enjoyed learning about each place’s history and culture, and enjoyed
making friends and collecting travel stories from each trip. Her favorite spot, however, was
always the beach. She cherished nearly annual trips to Jekyll Island, GA, a family favorite
vacation spot, especially when extended family could all come along.
Darlene was a devoted and dear friend to all who had the pleasure to call her theirs. She always
had a kind word and a listening ear. She valued praying with and for her friends and was faithful
to do so. Darlene had a quick wit and loved laughing and playing games when friend groups
would get together.
Her favorite role, however, was being Nan to her two granddaughters, Sophia and Claire. She
cherished watching them grow and learn. She was so proud of the kind, smart, and funny girls
they are. They brought her the most light, joy, and laughter in her life and she relished in caring
for them and spoiling them.

As we grieve this loss of her time with us here, we recognize what an honor it is to experience
such profound sadness for it means we were fortunate enough to deeply love our wife, mother,
nene, aunt Darlene, nanny, and friend.
Darlene is survived by her immediate family, including her husband, Steve, daughters Jen
Carney and Amanda Deeter, granddaughters Sophia and Claire Deeter, niece Kristeen (Bobby)
Rose, great nephew Lance (Nicole) Rose, and great great nephews Carter and Preston Rose,
whom she adored. She is survived by a special sister-in-law, Sandra (Carney) Breckenridge,
brother-in-law John Pasiuk and cherished nieces and nephews Kenneth (Chris) Pasiuk, Kevin
(Tally) Pasiuk, and Jordye (Brian) Joyce. She is also survived by great nieces and nephews
Caleb (Sarah) Pasiuk, Aiden Pasiuk, Benny (Krissy) Pasiuk, Mason Pasiuk, Layna (Brennan)
Scott, Carson Joyce, and Morgan Joyce.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Linda (White) Pasiuk.
A funeral service will be held for Darlene on Friday February 27, 2026 at 1:00 pm. At Gilbert
