Gregory Alspaugh Obituary

Greg Alspaugh, 74, of Lewisburg, OH, passed away on October 3, 2024, after a long battle with cancer, a fight he waged with the same quiet strength that guided him through life. Born in 1950 and a graduate of Brookville High School’s class of 1969, Greg’s early career was spent working his magic on cars at Loy’s Auto Body, where he became known not just for his talent but for his obsessive attention to detail. That same reputation followed him to Salem Chrysler, where he became the service manager, making sure every car left the shop in perfect condition. But Greg’s love of a perfect finish didn’t stop at work—at home, he waxed anything that had a surface. Cars, tables, the mailbox—nothing was safe. His family joked that if something was within Greg’s reach, it was going to end up shiny. Even his beloved dog might’ve gotten a coat if it held still long enough. But it wasn’t just his work ethic that defined him. It was his family—his wife of 54 years, Lynda, and their two children, Jodi and Clint. Greg’s love for them was always present, often expressed through his unique sense of humor and the endless pranks he played on his kids and grandkids. No family gathering was complete without one of Greg’s well-placed jokes or a story told in his unmistakable way, leaving everyone laughing, even if they’d heard it a hundred times before. His grandkids—Blake, Thomas, George, Amelia, Zeppelin, and Christopher—were his pride and joy, and in them, his mischief found new life. Greg’s commitment to others extended into the community. He wasn’t one for fanfare, but everyone knew him. And if you knew Greg, you knew he was as good as his word. He was the guy who didn’t dance around the truth, and people loved him for that. He was a longtime member of the Brookville Masonic Lodge #596, where he practiced with his son Clint and brother-in-law James. To Greg, the lodge was a place where he could live out the values he held dear—loyalty, tradition, and connection. These weren’t just words to him; they were a quiet code he followed throughout his life. Greg is preceded in death by his parents, Byron & Joan (Shields) Alspaugh; father & mother-in-law, Ralph & Mary Agnes Miller; a sister, Valerie (Alspaugh) Shafer; bother-in-law, Phil Caylor and a nephew, Michael Caylor. His absence will be felt by many, but especially by his wife Lynda, his children Jodi (Andy) Brennan and Clint (Margaret) Alspaugh, and his six grandchildren, who will carry forward his stories, his humor, and, undoubtedly, his love of a well-waxed surface. A celebration of Greg’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, from 4-6 p.m. at Gilbert-Fellers Funeral Home in Brookville, followed by a memorial service. In place of flowers, Greg would prefer that you take the people you love out to dinner—share a meal, tell a good story, and remember the man who understood that sometimes the simplest things in life are the ones that matter most.
