John D. Lux, known to many as JL or Doug, passed away on March 18, 2026, at the age of 66. Born on March 22, 1959, JL grew up in New Paris, Ohio, where he often shared stories of his childhood spending time with friends on the hill, fixing lawn mowers with his dad, and helping his uncle raise hunting dogs.

JL had a natural gift for making people laugh and a way of turning even the simplest moments into an adventure. His quick wit and infectious laughter made others feel instantly welcome and at ease.

He loved to cook, and anyone who knew him was warmly and sometimes insistently encouraged to try whatever he had created in the kitchen. His famous chicken wings were a favorite among family and friends, bringing people together time and time again. Whether gathered around the table or simply spending time together, those were the moments he cherished most.

Above all, he was deeply devoted to his family. He shared 47 years with the love of his life, Jaylene, and took great pride in his children and grandchildren.

JL is survived by his loving wife, Jaylene Lux; his children, Matt Lux (Kristen), Ashleigh Etherington (Blake), and Lauren Neece (Terry); and his cherished grandchildren, Teri, Katelyn, Morgan, Evan, Liam, Evelyn, Adilyn, and Conner, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Lux, and his sister, Diane Rucinski.

JL had the biggest heart and a special way of making people feel loved and valued. His laughter, stories, and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed. 

Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date, and we will update this obituary when the date has been selected.
