MEARS, Joyce Ann

Affectionately known as “Angel” to her family, passed away at the age of 78 on August 3, 2024.  Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, George & Fern Channell; sister, Phyllis Williams; brother-in-law, Jack Ackerman.  Born to George and Fern Channell on July 10, 1946, Joyce led a Christ centered life focused on her faith, family, friends and service to others.  A proud graduate of Bellbrook High School in 1964, Joyce married Roger Mears on April 26, 1969 and began a life to be cherished.  She loved her two boys and four grandchildren with her entire heart and never missed the chance to celebrate with family.  After her retirement from her 20+ year career in the medical field, she has enjoyed summers with her family in Ohio & winters with her Swan Lake family in Florida. As part of her calling, Joyce dedicated 10+ years of her life passionately counseling and supporting others in their fight against breast cancer as a Care Partner in the Chaplain’s Office at Kettering Medical Center.  Joyce was truly beautiful inside and out, and she touched so many lives in so many ways through the years.  Her greatest wish is for all to share in her faith and to remain in our hearts as she waits for us in Heaven.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 55 years, Roger Mears; sons, Ryan (Dawn) Mears and Joseph (fiancé, Amie) Mears; grandchildren, Joshua, Westin, Rachel and Gavin; sisters, Patricia Ackerman and Janet (Fred) Bowman; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 7th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at GILBERT-FELLERS FUNERAL HOME 950 ALBERT RD., BROOKVILLE. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 8th at Trinity Lutheran Church. 25 W. Westbrook Rd., Brookville. Interment to follow services in Bethel Cemetery, Phillipsburg.
