He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred & Mary Catherine (Moss) Wallace; and his sister Linda (Wallace) Smith; and his much-loved grandchildren Michael Wallace and Catherine Wallace.
Larry was born Feb. 1, 1941, into a Richmond, Indiana family that moved to Ohio while he was in middle school. He attended Arcanum High School, joined the Navy in 1958, and served as the officer’s barber on the U.S.S. Little Rock. He married Martha St. Germain in 1960 and had two children, Larry Wallace Jr. and Ann (Wallace) Forbes. After separating from the Navy in 1962, he joined Teamsters 957 and worked in trucking. Married again in November 1981 to Annabelle (Steele) Wallace, Larry promptly moved to sunny California and started his own trucking company, Western Buckeye Freight Lines. In 1989, he was diagnosed with advanced colon cancer and returned to Ohio to be closer to all of his family. Completing treatment, Larry resumed life by attending Mitchell Golf School and became a Class A club maker in 1998. He opened Personal Golf in Englewood, Ohio, which operated until his retirement in 2006. Larry was an avid golfer and won the Beechwood Senior Club championship in 2008.
Larry is a past president of the Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society, where he once again enjoyed reminiscing with his childhood friends. His true love was the USS Little Rock, now a floating museum in Buffalo, NY. Larry also was a member of the Little Rock Association and spent many years working on the Board of Directors to help support the upkeep of the ship. He loved to bowl and enjoyed playing in several leagues at Thunder Bowl until diagnosed with a new cancer and had to put away his bowling balls.
