Marilyn (Ernst) Shields Obituary

Marilyn (Ernst) Shields Obituary

Age 91 of Brookville, was called to Heaven on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 1:30 a.m. She was born on June 24, 1934. She is now reunited with the love of her life, David. She was preceded in death by him and her sister, Thelma Burton, Susan Koeller, and Sandra Henniger.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Peggy (Chip) Hills of Brookville; granddaughter, Emily Turner (Stefan) Langer of Worthington; grandson, Joshua (Cassie) Turner of Meggett, SC. She has one great-grandson, Jace David and one great-granddaughter, Mia Marlaine also of SC. She is also survived by her dear cousin, Mary Ellen Hoover.

Marilyn accepted the Lord as her personal Savior and taught Sunday School. She attended Brookville Grace Brethren Church for as long as she was able. In high school she loved sports and played fast pitch softball (she was the catcher) and basketball. She graduated from Brookville High in 1952. She attended Miami Jacob College and graduated with a stenographer degree. She married David, her high school sweetheart on September 19, 1953. For 34 years she was the office manager at Beth Abraham Synagogue. She loved working there and loved the friendships that she made.

She loved her small town, and she was full of fun facts of history about Brookville. After all, her grandmother's family (Mathias and Lizzie Ernst) and her mother and father (Icy and Lindon Ernst) had all resided in Brookville. She volunteered at the Brookville Historical Society. In lieu of flowers, she would love for donations to be sent to them.

She loved growing up on the farm with her sisters, loved to hunt mushrooms and enjoyed camping. She loved tacos, Marion's pizza and Mar-Chele soft pretzels!

Thanks to the staff at the Cypress Pointe facility and thanks to Ohio's Hospice of Dayton. They provided her with excellent care during her stay and were a comfort to her in her final days. There will be a visitation from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 27th at GILBERT-FELLERS FUNERAL HOME 950 ALBERT RD., BROOKVILLE. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by internment services at Royal Oak Memorial Gardens. Marilyn loved to wear her jeans! If you are able to attend, feel free to wear jeans and a football team shirt of your choice. Services will be conducted by her cousin, Lee Behnken.
