Marjorie Jean (Gish) Garber, eldest daughter of Caleb & Alice (Miller) Gish was born on June 3, 1928 in Modesto California. She passed to her eternal home Sunday morning September 10, 2023 at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, Ohio.
Mother was convicted of her need of a Savior and was baptized on July 14, 1946. She was a member of The Old German Baptist Brethren Church.
Mother married our dad, Samuel Albert Garber, in Modesto California on November 30,1946. Born to them were 2 daughters and 3 sons.
Mother together with our dad, was called to the ministry of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in 1954. They were ordained into the eldership in 1968. They faithfully served through the years in that capacity as long as health permitted.
Mother was a very industrious person who loved to be busy baking, fixing meals for her family, and taking care of the house. She loved her only sibling Marie and family in California, and Dad’s family became like her very own. She enjoyed the fellowship with many friends and loved ones in the Miami Valley of Ohio and beyond.
Mother was preceded in death by her parents, her husband’s parents LeRoy & Cleo, her husband in 2004, a daughter Kathleen in 2011, and a son Thomas in 2008. Also preceding her were her sister Marie, and many of Dad’s siblings and their spouses, Ellen (Ralph), Robert (Doris), Henry (Lois), and Lowell.
She is survived by her daughter Louise, a son Gordon and wife Ruth, a daughter in law Sherda (Tom’s wife), and a son Aaron and wife Marianne. She is also survived by her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by her brother-in-law Merle Bauman (Marie’s husband), sisters in law Mae (Harold) Gish, Eva (Samuel) Boone, and Janet Garber. Some dear cousins including a special cousin Roger Gish, nieces and nephews, and many friends.
We are thankful for the many people that visited our mother during her later years and encouraged her. Dad and Mother enjoyed many friends through the years and throughout the brotherhood and in their community. The staff and hospice at Brethren Retirement Community were so kind and helpful to mother and our family. We want to thank them for their care and service.
We also express our appreciation and thankfulness for the kindness, food and encouragement during Mother’s passing.
