SHELTON, Millard J.R.

Born in Glasgow, Kentucky on July 1, 1952, passed away peacefully at Ohio’s Hospice in Dayton after a short illness on December 24, 2024. He was preceded in death by his father, Millard Shelton and “mother” Geraldine Claywell; son, Matt; siblings, Janet, Dexter, Charles (Jeff), Debbie Dickson and Danny. He met his wife Cheryl in the Oregon District in 1969 and they were married on September 30, 1972. He joined the U.S. Army in 1970 and in 1972 joined the Ohio National Guard. He was a very proud military soldier and enjoyed his years of service. He received an honorable discharge when he retired in 1998 as a CSM. He is survived by his faithful wife of 52 years, Cheryl Shelton; daughter Angela Rice (Pat); grandsons, Jordan Walters (Krysia) and Levi Bailey; great grandchildren, Liam & Eleanor; siblings, Billy Shelton, Cletta Steffan and Joy R.; brothers-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton, Wounded Warrior Project, Tunnels to Towers or the Gary Sinise Foundation. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 14th at Dayton National Cemetery.
