Norma Jean (Burkett) McCready

Age 81, of Vandalia, Ohio, passed away on May 13, 2026. She was born on June 21, 1944, in Dayton, Ohio. Norma spent most of her life in Brookville, Ohio, which she always considered home, and spent her later years in Vandalia to be closer to her grandchildren.

She was a 1962 graduate of Brookville High School and later attended the Richard Weston School of Beauty in Dayton, Ohio. Norma worked as a hairdresser for more than 50 years, almost entirely in Brookville. Her customers were her dearest friends, and she took pride in knowing their lives and families as much as their hair. Her career allowed her to build lasting relationships and remain closely connected to the community she loved.

Family was central to Norma’s life. Her favorite moments were spent at the kitchen table, visiting with family and friends, sharing stories and keeping up with everyone’s lives. She was also well known for staying in touch through handwritten cards, faithfully remembering birthdays and spending weeks each year addressing Christmas cards to family, friends, and customers alike. She devoted many hours to researching genealogy, preserving family history for future generations.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Jimmy) Wolf; grandchildren Matthew Wolf and Jenny Wolf; brothers, Wayne Burkett, Tim (Gina) Burkett, and Mike Burkett; sister-in-law, Shawn Hamm; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Tom McCready; her parents, Bob Burkett and June (Myer) Burkett; and her sisters, Melissa Burkett and Debbie Burkett.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 22nd at Gilbert-Fellers Funeral Home in Brookville with funeral services to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Pyrmont Cemetery, Brookville.

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to her hospice team and the caregivers who faithfully cared for her over the past nine months.
