Richard Earl Winings “Rich” crossed the final finish line on July 26, 2026.  He was born the second of four sons to Sterling and Mary Jo (Griffith) Winings on May 29, 1958.  On February 3, 1979, he married Suzy Ward in Indianapolis.   

Rich worked as an aircraft mechanic for FedEx for 30 years before retiring in 2014. While aviation was his career, racing was his passion. After competing in Quarter Midgets and TQ Midgets in his younger years, he found his true calling as a mechanic when his children began racing Quarter Midgets. He went on to spend countless years in the pits, turning wrenches for many drivers, owners, and friends, primarily in Midget, Sprint Car, and Silver Crown racing. 

Rich will be deeply missed by his wife Suzy; son Chris; daughter Angie (Abe) Dull; grandchildren A.J. (Britney) Winings, Justin, Jaycee and Jared Dull; great-grandchildren Lennox and Finley Winings; and brothers Butch and Duane.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Bill.  

A celebration of life will be held August 23, 2026 from 3-6 at Eldora Ballroom, 13929 State Route 118, New Weston, OH 45348. Racing tee-shirts recommended, but not required.
