Ronald E. Burgin Obituary
Ronald E. Burgin, age 84 of Troy, Ohio, passed away on November 13, 2025. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Jean; son, Gregory E. Burgin of Asheville, NC; daughter, Laurie Ann Crawford (Robert) of Tipp City, OH; five grandchildren, Gabriel and Hannah Burgin of Asheville, NC, Ethan Crawford, Lauren Walkup (Zach) of Troy, OH and Galen Crawford (ThuBa) of San Francisco; three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Willie Flata (Carter) Burgin of Asheville, NC.
Born in Marion, NC, he grew up in Asheville, NC and later lived in New Jersey for over 50 years. Ronald attended Asheville High. He serviced four years in the United States Coast Guard and received his GED while serving in the Coast Guard. He graduated with a BA in Elementary Education from Glassboro State College in 1972. Also in 1972 he graduated from the New Jersey State Marine Police Academy.
After his military service, he worked for the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Shell Fisheries. Later he was employed by the New Jersey Department of Labor and retired from the Department of Labor in 2003.
Ronald was a member of First Baptist Church in Asheville, NC. He was a 32nd degree Mason, The Valley of Southern New Jersey, Mt. Hernon Lodge AF&AM in Asheville, NC, and the Royal Arch Masons Brearley Chapter No. 6 in New Jersey. He was a life member of Bayshore Sportmans Club where he served a term as president and several years as a member of the board. Ronald was a life member of American Legion Post 239 in Tuckahoe, NJ, and served in the capacity of Post Commander, County Commander, and DEC. Ronald was an Upper Township Republican Committeeman and in Asheville, NC he was a Precinct Vice Chair. He served as a Board Member on the Lower Township MUA. In the 1980’s he served as a Housing Inspector in Cape May, NJ.
He had a boat and loved boating in Cape May County, NJ. In his camper he enjoyed traveling throughout the US visiting the land and historic places. He was an avid target shooter and enjoyed participating in matches. He was also an avid reader of sea stories and spy novels. Every year he looked forward to the Memorial Day Observance in Upper Township, NJ where the members of Post 239 would have a ceremony honoring the deceased veterans at each Township Cemetery.
Viewing will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 20th at GILBERT-FELLERS FUNERAL HOME 950 ALBERT RD., BROOKVILLE. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, followed by internment services in Arlington Cemetery, Brookville.
