JOHNSON, Ward L.

Age 89, of Brookville, OH. died on July 25, 2025. He was born in Ashtabula, Ohio to the late Ward A. & Aina (Lehtinen) Johnson on Sept. 20, 1935. Ward graduated from Ashtabula Harbor High School (1953). He earned his degree in Civil Engineering (1957) from Ohio Northern University. Ward worked 40 years in highway construction for 3 construction companies; Holderman Const. (Columbus), Danis Industries (Dayton) where he was Chief Engineer Vice President of the Highway division and Fort Defiance Const. (Defiance). Ward was a registered professional Engineer in 5 states. Ward is survived by his wife of the past 69 years. He is also survived by his 2 sons, Craig Johnson (Hope) and Grant Johnson (Cathy); 5 grandchildren, Alan, Paul, Lydia, Aaron and Abbie; 3 great-grandchildren, Elody, Leah and Hanna; sister, Marian Spring and a brother-in-law, Jon Kangas. One of Wards enjoyments he had, in addition to working with others in the construction industry to reach our common goals, was playing his baritone horn, which he played in many bands through high school and college. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Brookville First United Methodist Church, with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.gilbert-fellers.com.
