SHIELDS, Darrel W.
Age 82, of Brookville, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 following a sudden illness. He was preceded in death by a sister, Pat & by a granddaughter, Hannah Hardin. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War, a retired history teacher with Dayton Public Schools, and he was a former mayor and volunteer firefighter for the Village of Phillipsburg. Darrel worked construction literally up until the day he died. He loved spending summers with his family in the U.P. and he was proud to have walked across the Mackinac Bridge this past Labor Day weekend. He had a very special place in his heart for his wife, children & grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sheila; children, Ross Shields, Mark (Jennifer) Shields, Shari (Anthony) Meyers, Sara (Brent) Hardin; grandchildren, Matthew, Kara, Madelin, Rachel, Landon, Dylan, Blake, Evan, Cheyenna & Brody; great-grandchild, Logan; sister, Karen Wombold and numerous other relatives and friends. A Memorial Service will be held 7 PM Friday, Oct. 21 at the GILBERT-FELLERS FUNERAL HOME, 950 ALBERT RD., BROOKVILLE. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 PM until service time.
